- 1.3 runspeed – has a better flow without being too fast, and was used by ESL for years of FEAR competition. While 1.2 was used in North America, 1.3 is a reasonable speed and seems to be the happy medium between the slower standard speed and the full retard of 1.4 and 1.5 that many pubs seem to be running nowadays.
- 2 meds – will encourage more combat and less camping on resources
- 3 nades – i like it when things go boom
- 1 remote – i see some people who are pretty horrible in terms of aim but just whore remotes and manage to get a lot of kills, we should encourage skilled play over cheap kills like that in competition
- Sidestep prohibited – Moving through the map completely silently is just too much for a CTF match where your only indication of whether your enemy is walking nearby with your flag. Let’s be realistic, this is an exploit that wouldn’t have shipped with the game if their QA team discovered it. Any use of this should be instant forfeit or at very least -1 to their flag capture score when used.
Leans: While overused by low-skilled players, it seems like most people still accept this. I know they were not permitted in ESL back in FEAR’s glory days, but were permitted in ESL due to being part of the game and difficult to enforce. I think at the end of the day, a higher skilled player should have no problem killing lean whores and that as lame and cheap leaning can be, it can be permitted. All those who constantly lean should be ridiculed though
Hyperpunch: It’s part of the game and easily countered. If you get rolled by unarm whores, you have nobody to blame but yourself. It was permitted in the GotFrag invitational tournament, in CAL, in TWL, and in ESL. I just can’t take anybody who is still trying to have this debate again seriously.
Maps: Perhaps this could be voted, best of 2 maps with 12-15 minutes + 5 minute overtime per map in the event of a tie during that map’s round. 1 map chosen per team.
In the event of a tie-breaker, if the 2 teams can agree on a map they can play it, if not an admin can choose one. 5 minute overtime if needed, programmed into the server.June 6, 2012 at 9:39 pm #934
I’d say 2-3 remotes because 1 just makes it an add-on to a normal nade and there would barely be a difference between no motes and 1 mote… At the very least 2 adds a bit of freedom around how someone chooses to use it. Yes it’s lame, but it’s still part of the game and can be very effective at times.
For the rest everything Exhail said sounds completely reasonable, especially about the overtime, which should be easy to implement.June 7, 2012 at 4:22 am #936
Hate remotes but they become vital in CTF play (e.g remote/proxy traps) dont personally use them but others do. Almost anything can be abused in this game, Leaning / Wall glitching to see through them / UA/Remote Abuse (over-use)/ but as i stated before and was pointed out by Fred, mutual respect between players should stop these things from occuring.
No complaints, seems legit.June 7, 2012 at 5:22 am #937
Imo, the method to decide the tiebreaker map should be to let the teams take turn in eliminating maps they don’t want to play, and the map that remains after that process should be played. I really don’t like the idea of an admin deciding the tie-breaker.June 7, 2012 at 5:47 am #938
But then who decides who starts the elimination process? Because the team that gets to pick between 2 remaining map basically gets to pick…with very limited options of course but still. I like the idea overall but it’s important to have a fair way to determine who starts…June 7, 2012 at 7:49 am #939
Im all for having a predetermined map selected by the admin/admin’s, as long as its fair i have no problem with what is chosen.
Have a admin random a map after the 2 games are played and a tie breaker is needed, you could even write the maps down on some paper and put it in a hat xD. As long as the decision is fair.
If a map is chosen and a team isnt good at it, they have only themselves to blame for not training all maps.June 7, 2012 at 8:23 am #940
Tie breaker map has to be decided before hand thats the only way to make it fair. Each team gets to pick a map and FGC(Fear Gamming Community) gets to pick the tie breaker map. The tie breaker map will be ramdomly picked the day the match hits the brackets. Meaning that when the matches are set the tie breaker map is also set. This will give each team a little time to practice that map while trying to schedule the best times to play the match.
So let me put this together in one place; I believe the majority is
1 proxy only 1 set limit
1 remotes only 1 set limit
no side steps / sound glitches
1.3 run speed
Leans are OK
Do we agree or should we discuss more options?June 7, 2012 at 8:29 am #941
Sound glitches are UNavoidable…the moment you jump from lower ground onto higher ground and jump again it’s a sound glitch. Only the obvious ones like sidestep and using the arrow keys to glitch should be banned.
I’m sure this is kinda obvious but map rotation should be:
The big problem with deciding a tie-breaker beforehand is that there will then be a 40% chance (if both teams pick a different map), that the tiebreaker will be a map already played…June 7, 2012 at 8:37 am #946
I agree however if a tie breaker map is a map that your team wanted then good for your team…
ok here is the list for review
Capture the Flag Tournament Rules & Guidelines
•This will be a playoff type tournament.
•Teams advance to next round by winning a best of 3 match set.
•Each clan can have a maximum of 3 teams. They must contain there clan tag with a unique team name after it. Here is an example for the SHK clan; |SHK| Killers, |SHK| Big Dogs, and |SHK| shadow warriors.
•Teams of 4 players with 2 players on reserve. (So basically every team will consist of 6 players, of which 4 actually play each match. This is in case of a no-show / disconnects reasons) If a player is a no show or disconnects mid-game then a reserve player must join.
•Matches must be played within a 2 weeks of the scheduled date.
•Teams compete against each other moving through the tournament brackets until only one team is standing
•Each match will have a referee (sanctioned by the FEAR community) to enforce the rules and take screen shots and videos
The Server guidelines
•The servers will be provided by the FGC (FEAR gamming Community). The server’s location will depend on the competing teams location as to try to even the pings for both teams.
•The playing fields will be stock maps with a 12 minute time limit.
•Each team gets to pick a map and the tie breaker map will be picked by FGC (FEAR gamming Community) in advance when the match is set. This will give each team the opportunity to practice while trying to schedule the time to play the match.
•2 Med packs
•1 remote bomb
•1.3 run speed
•No super weapons
•Hyper-punching, leaning are accepted!
•No side stepping !
•No Map glitching (looking through walls etc.)
•Players that are on a team for one clan cannot be on another team for the same clan (unless they are substitute players). However if a player is in multi clans he can be on one team per Clan that he is actively a member of. If conflicts arise due to a player being on both teams than both teams must use a substitute player
Let me know if we still need to modify thisJune 7, 2012 at 8:38 am #948
I don’t like the rule of saying that people can be in more teams as long as they;’re active in clans…it’s a very subjective rule taht can’t be checked. Also it gives certain people advantage over others
Also, you should look into the rules for respawning times, as they will change a lot of the dynamicJune 7, 2012 at 8:41 am #950
well i dont want to be forced in deciding which friends i play with because im in a few clans so that rule is for me lolJune 7, 2012 at 8:42 am #951
what are you talking about…an admin should never, ever, give himself an advantage or change rules because it suits him better… it would simply be really unfair and subjective, which isn’t what a rule should beJune 7, 2012 at 8:59 am #952
well, if the majority says so then lets change it, however if i must pick which clan i’m playing with then i’m out of the tournament. I’ll still help but i will not play.. I’m already on 3 teams, one for each clan i’m in. I am very active in all 3 clans s not a decission i take lightly.
You know me and how i am. I play for fun and alway put others in the game before me. so, if its going to cause issues, then its not worth the hassel.June 7, 2012 at 9:00 am #953
I don’t know if it will, I’m just saying it is something that could be abused. Not saying it will, but yeahJune 7, 2012 at 9:07 am #954
As a sidenote, I personally don’t mind it haha. Was just pointing out that it sounded rather odd that you implemented that because it would be better for YOU..
