According to the Tournament bracket, the tournament was scheduled to start 2 days ago.
I’ve seen no kick-off announcement or any information regarding scheduling matches and match locations.
Can we please get official clarification on the following:
1) Has the tournament started and are the brackets finalized as-is?
2) Can teams now begin to play their matches against their bracket opponents?
3) List of referees and availability, as well as information as to who can be a referee and what their duties will be if other referees are needed / not available when teams agree to play their matches.
4) Match Scheduling – I.e. now that teams have opponents, what is the time limit they have to play their matches? 1 week? 2 weeks? 1 day? No information has ever been posted on the subject.
4.5) How lenient are we about play dates, i.e. if someone has to go away on business or vacation for a week, can the tournament match be scheduled to be played earlier, before that team member leaves for a week, or postponed by a few days so that they can still play, but a few days late? Is this acceptable if both teams agree and it doesn’t drastically hold up the rest of the tournament?
5) Match locations – I’ve seen comments that CheesyPoofs CTF can be used for matches. How do you reserve the server for a match? Are other servers also acceptable, provided they are running SEC2 and the proper server settings as per previous posts in this forum?
Everyone I see around in pubs, corned beef, and other servers are all asking me what’s going on with the tournament and the community seems to be pretty confused right now.
I understand whippingpost has priorities and has to make sure the family is fed, but if he isn’t able to meet his organizational duties is there someone else who can help him out? Because right now there are tons of teams ready to go waiting for somebody to say anything about the tournament.
We all have priorities in life but if you are unable to take care of the responsibilities you have volunteered to take on here, it would be courteous to delegate them to somebody else rather than have the entire tournament be held up in limbo while you wait to have the time to deal with it. We understand that you’re busy, but if you are busy, let someone else step in instead of wasting everybody else’s time and step back in when you have the time to volunteer again.
Sorry if this is coming off as harsh, I’m just trying to be realistic and find a solution to getting the ball rolling. If we have an organizational bottleneck with 1 person being the only reason that 50+ people are waiting, we have a problem and need to address it so that the tourney can continue as scheduled. There hasn’t been a post about the tournament in a week and 4 days, even though the tourney was supposed to start 2 days ago. That is a problem that needs to be addressed, as well as answers to the above-listed questions, if we are to ensure this gets organized instead of fizzling out quietly.July 24, 2012 at 2:05 pm #1252
Is good to see someone else interested in the details, we are doing our best to bring this up but 3 or 4 people are not enough.
Will take some time to type all the answers so I’ll go on those I already know:
The Servers, there’s no specific way to reserve It, but there are several Servers already in place. Chessy Got renamed to FEAR CTF Tournament(US), people willing to host a server please verify the settings discussed in the previous posts and use the same name, indicating the location, i.e. (US-West). There is a FEAR CTF TOurnament(UE) too.
About the time, FraggedNation sent mails to Team Captains to let em know they have some days ( 1 week?) to pact the Match Date, I suggest you to get It done for this weekend, since is usually the average time a team needs.
Will be posting more info later, since, well I g2g for now.
This is the first tournament we make, and we are new to FraggedNation too, but It looks like a solid plataform to help out make the tournament more solid.July 24, 2012 at 2:14 pm #1253
I agree that the time given until an allocated match seems a bit harsh …
We received a notification this morning that we were playing KFC clan (7am GMT) and as far as I could tell we have until midnight tonight to play … the report match option at fraggednation said by the 25th July. Not much notice there? Maybe I misunderstood it.
I sent a request to play 10pm (GMT) this evening in case this was right.
I mentioned that we (RaW) didn’t know which server so I suggested ours if need be as we have a CTF server running with the agreed rules. (FF off, 1 prox etc) – RaW Recruits CTF
The server is not passworded at the moment but can be by request anytime by asking in one of our servers (if there’s anyone in), at our website or by emailing myself or Rebel at email@example.comfirstname.lastname@example.org
As for referees, do they have to be neutral – as in not in any of the clans involved in the tournament? If need be would it be an idea for us to allocate referees within our clans to referee matches, obviously that their clans aren’t playing in at the time.
You mentioned a couple of servers e, perhaps we should put a list up somewhere of all the servers available to use and who to contact about locking them when needed if they are not already.
EDIT: I posted this within minutes of yours Fred.

Tie breaker will be Labs

Please post on FEAR community website with time of your match so we can record the match for YouTube videos. Currently there are 2 servers; one located in east coast US and the other in Frankfort DE [EU] there will be more servers soon.
8th Aug, phew … better than a day.July 24, 2012 at 4:27 pm #1257
I also got the email.
2 weeks seems like a lot of time to play matches. Hopefully people play their matches quickly so that things can move a little faster than 1 match per 2 weeks.
What’s up with the maps? There are 3 maps listed to be played, but a 4th as a tiebreaker?
The whole point of the 3rd map is to be the tiebreaker. A 4th is not necessary.

lol, I was too slow to post.
Sorry, here we go again.
I think the point Is, If It’s a draw after the 3 maps, you should play the 4th, over and over until someone wins. Someone correct me If there’s a problem with this.

Not sure if this is the best place to post but I would like to put myself forward as a match referee for this tournament, I’m from the UK and use to run the F.E.A.R. section on clanbase and ran multiple cups and leagues as well as refereeing as many games as I could, with reports during periods i was not in charge. Can find links if necessary.
Is the cup run on map count or flag count?
Is there a link to the rules?July 25, 2012 at 8:38 am #1264
Well, simply put, the math does not add up to require a 4th map. If you win 2 maps, you have won and needn’t play a third. If you win one map, and your opponent wins one map, then you play a third map as a tiebreaker. I understand often in public servers you will see a draw as the end result of a map, but a draw in my opinion is not an option for tournament play. Each map should have a conclusive result rather than a draw that necessitates another map be played.
To ensure there is a winner on each map, sudden-death overtime should be played in the event of a draw. I would suggest having a 10-15 minute overtime setting in the server config to ensure that there is sufficient time to capture 1 additional flag without having to restart the server. I think that would result in more exciting play where both teams are fighting to get that 1 extra capture to win, in an all-or-nothing kind of way.July 25, 2012 at 7:42 pm #1272
hey guys i just played with team apex our round against pwa. i’m just sayin if yall are doin the referee thing then shouldnt the match only b official with one. and plus we had some players MIA. shoulda been back by august 8th. heard sumtin about referees needed for a match to count…July 25, 2012 at 7:52 pm #1273

I was about to ask about that, we didn’t get any info on It until I checked the result. Also, I think all of us agreed to record all the matches, and we weren’t notified about It. I’m usually in xfire, but I have no way to know when a match is being played, we need you guys tell us about It :/
For referees I think captains of other teams can make It, and, If now, other trusted FEAR Players. Since FEAR was just added to the list in fraggednation we need to make this work by the community Itself, that’s the big deal here! Whipping, exhail, Rebel and me can’t manage all the pending stuff, so please let us know when you are playing the match again so we can be there!July 26, 2012 at 12:08 am #1276
btw @ler0y here are the rules:
But some points need to be made clear, @whippingpost, @rebel, @exhail, @fredcpp, @morda, @phreeze and other editors can update stuff there If needed, If someone wants more feedback please post here, we need your comments to make this work the best possible.July 26, 2012 at 9:00 am #1277
@fredcpp I know that most of the clans will be adept at configering their servers but it could be an idea to have an official server config they could download. Although I don’t think SEC2 implements signed configs.
Also is it relevent to check players guids anymore, so we know who is really playing? If so could be an idea to make the admin to check before the starts of each round and anytime a new player joins.
Does punkbuster still take screenshots? Could be an idea to request the server admins to send these over for each match?
Could be an idea to outline the map pool for each round.
And lastly for referees who are recording the match, should they pick a single player and do it in first person or switch between players in first person or do what ever they want?July 26, 2012 at 12:19 pm #1278
The Servers are not using PB afaik, but SEC2 allows you to check players IP’s, so we can check that to confirm the player Identity.July 26, 2012 at 1:03 pm #1284
Surely IP wouldn’t work because most people don’t have a fixed IP address?
